I have recently started reading: Praying the Names of Jesus by Ann Spangler. The first name is Immanuel, God with us.
I am amazed and humbled as I roll this around in my mind. God with us. God with me. God with you. It is easy to think that He is with "the good kind" of people, what we consider the norm. And I start to think a bit further from the box.
God is with all of us. Not some of us. Righteous, sinners, children, adults, drug users, prostitutes, homemakers, teachers, pastors, widows, orphans, the prodigal, the loyal servant, the atheist.
God is with the young child sold into sex slavery in Mumbai, India.
God is with the mother watching her child's body surrender to cancer.
God is with the father still searching for work in order to provide for his family.
God is with the child in America who is thankful for school because that is the only place he gets food.
God is with the mother who is doing a load of laundry for the 5th time that day.
God is with the husband who tenderly cares for his wife even when she can't remember who he is.
God is with the homeless man, who served his country in a war long ago, as he sleeps in a shelter.
God is with the little girl who is molested repeatedly by a trusted relative.
God is with the nurse who works at the local abortion clinic.
His unfailing love is boundless, limitless, endless and all encompassing.
